I was in the waiting area at H&R Block the other day waiting to get my taxes done. There was a Seventeen Magazine lying on a chair and I picked it up and started flipping through it. The one thing that grabbed my attention was a quiz called What Draws You In? This is geared towards girls fighting within their "crew" or clique. Two members of the group will be in a fight. There are other bystanders who are left wondering what happened in the first place for a fight to erupt.
This quiz has three categories for results. The first is "you love the attention." This describes the person who draws themselves into the middle of the conflict to gain attention from everyone. Play mediator yet by placing themselves there, they are only keeping the drama fueled. Another result is "you want to feel needed." Members will get involved to be the support system for their friends. However, this only leaves the person feeling abandoned once the fight is over. The final result is "you want to bond" meaning the group member will take a side and be close in the moment to one of the two friends. However, this bonding is only occurring during the negative and not the positive stuff.
I am sure that whoever created this quiz was well meaning as it was geared towards helping teen girls deal with these situations. I commend the person who created this as I know their heart was in the right place. However, I want to take it up a notch. By even encouraging this in the first place, we are only fueling teen girls to behave this way in conflict. Why does there have to be a middle man? Do they have to take sides? Is playing "therapist" really helping the conflict or confusing the whole group as to where you stand? My response to this quiz is that bystanders get together and help their two friends work the conflict out. Take both parties aside and get to the bottom of the story and talk it out. Get together in a group and talk it out. Why is that so hard? The problem is over a boy? Maybe the group can try and remember that guys will come and go but friends can last forever and no guy should come between them? Or if it is over clothes or an item, talk it out and figure out who can borrow what at a particular time. Most importantly, why does there even have to be a clique? Groups are fine as long as they are not exclusive. I do not encourage clique behavior at all as it is hurtful and destructive.
I am sure people will think I am naïve in speaking this. Believe me I am not. Teens are self centered but also have the capabilities to talk their problems out in a rational manner. I have seen it done with my own two eyes. What teens do not understand is that by feeding into these three areas of conflict, they only increase the drama and the problem only grows worse and not better. These three areas are a part of relational aggression. Its important that they do know this. Fighting between teen girls is normal. Handling the problem in these three areas only makes the problem worse and this is what teens do need to understand. If it helps, get an impartial adult to help mediate in the problem solving. The bottom line is that conflict is not healthy. Friendships form out of mutual interests and these are important during the teen years. Keep the situation real but deal with it in a healthy manner for everyone. At the end of the day, we all need our friends.
There are so many X-men girls or women who are simply fantastic. Each and every one of them has their own unique mutant power, personality, etc. And so it is a tough call to make! How am I going to rank who is the best or the worst?
But before I evaluate them, I need a list of X-girls and X-women (villains or superheroes). So here are some of the names that came into mind immediately - If she is not in the list below, please don't kill me!

So now that I have a list of potential candidates, it is time to determine how I will rank them accordingly. After burning out many brain cells (I'm not joking), I drew up my own criteria that I would use to evaluate some of girls and women of the X-men.

It is highly recommended that you read my list of criteria below, so that you would know what I am blabbering about.
Character Criteria:
Good (Kick-Ass) Attitude - Be it a super-villain or a superhero, without attitude it makes a character really boring (*yawns*).
Useful Superpower - A character with useless superpower/s should not even be created.
Strong Believer - I feel that it is important to strongly believe in something and fight for your beliefs. Don't you?
Able to Relate - If you are unable to relate to the characters, it is really difficult to even like them.
The List
After much comparison, I have finally decided who my top 3 X-men Girls are (*Drum rolls please*):
1st: Mystique
2nd: Rogue
3rd: Jean Grey
So why choose them and not others? My X-men girls were ranked according to the number of points they have scored for their attitude, superpower,etc. But don't let me bore you with the math. And so now let me give you a brief summary on how or why they're chosen. Follow me please ...
Mystique is the ultimate winner because she scored a lot of points in criteria such as "Good (Kick-Ass) Attitude" and "Useful Superpower". I feel that her shape-shifting abilities commonly known as morphing ability is really something so unique (psst ... I always secretly wished I could morph into anyone).
The only thing about Mystique that confuses me is her complicated history. But her background is not a concern here, so that will not be taken into consideration.
Whereas for Rogue, there seem to be this connection that allows me to understand and empathize with what she is going through at most stages of her life. Therefore, she scores a lot of points for "Able to Relate" and also "Useful Superpower". Don't you wish you can just suck the life out of the person you disliked most? - *Warning* No violence encouraged!
Lastly, Jean Grey just made it into the last entry on my top list. Initially, I felt that her superpower (before she became the phoenix) was not really outstanding or probably seems quite common among mutants. But I shall evaluate as she is now with her new unleashed superpower. Naturally, she scores some points in "Useful Superpower" criterion.
But she scored exceptionally well in the "Strong Believer" criterion because I admired how she has never stopped loving Cyclops. Even though, I secretly wished she get together with Wolverine or Archangel instead.
So there you are ... My very own top 3 list of X-men Girls and Women!

As soon as he comes home from work, open the door for him and without saying a word, just give him a big hug and a kiss. Pull back, look in the eyes and tell him you are really sorry. Channel your frustration and annoyance into something fun. Maybe have a pillow fight instead of screaming at each other. Do something silly and completely childish after your fight. Have a mini wresting match and get a little sweaty. When the dust settles your fight with your man will draw both of you a lot closer than you have ever been.

In my entire life I had never seen my father's uncovered body. Everyone was expected to be fully dressed at all times, morning, noon, and night, either dressed in street clothes or sleepwear. There were no exceptions. Daddy would send you away from the supper table if you dared expect to dine in a T-shirt. But the times were different now. If my father needed to be moved or roll over onto his side, I helped my mother.
I was shaving. One day at the age of 14, when my father saw what I was doing and asked if I was going to get some of that shaving cream out of my ears before I left the house. I continued trying to shave even though there was little if any hair on my face or for that matter any where else. Daddy also asked where I was headed to anyway. I said I was going to a movie.
"Really," he said. He probably figured I was headed to downtown Kernersville, NC with my brother or sister, or perhaps even the cute girl across street. But he asked anyway. "Who are going with to the movies?" he calmly asked.
He was not really prepared for my response. Not many fathers are, and frankly, I was not prepared for my response to his question either.
With my face covered with shaving cream, I looked up at my father-a mountain of a man, standing six feet tall with chiseled muscles on a large frame, and with an expression of such affection and love glowing through all that form-and I said, "with Gat!"
When Wit Taylor, my father, was bedridden, weak from radiation and chemotherapy, and nearing death, he showed me for the first time his collection of photographs that he kept locked in a safe. I asked him to tell me about the people in the photographs, all my relatives, and when he did I would write a small number on the back of the photograph and log the names, dates, place with any other information he could remember on a separate piece of paper. Dad and I did this for almost three days. He gave me his collection of photographs. The oldest one is a photograph of my grandfather, Robert Paul Taylor, in his World War I army uniform. I have pictures of my grandmother and my great-grandmother.
With that, the expression of tenderness and joy upon seeing the only male heir, the only Taylor left to bear the family name, taking his first steps toward so-called manhood by shaving, were replaced with the heavy concerns and burdens of fathers everywhere. He knew that look on my face and the sparks in my eyes for a boy who lived across town meant that this was no ordinary friendship. I was in love, and it was not the neighbor's daughter that caught my fancy. He moved closer and said, "Didn't you have dinner with him last night, and lunch today, and the two of you are going to a movie together tonight?" "It is just a movie," I said sheepishly.
He moved closer; I grew frightened, and he said, "We already have one Mark in the family. We do not need two!" That was all my father ever said to me about being gay. He wanted me to know he was no fool.
I shaved daddy for the first time in my life, and he would let me, calm and smiling. One time a friend of my mother's from church brought daddy some clears oils I believed had been blessed by our pastor. Daddy wanted mother to rub it on his back. She bristled and instructed me to do it. What! Me?"
I had never touched my father's shoulders. I proceeded to rub the oils and became more aware of the moment, and of his pending death, and of my own someday. While I was rubbed the oils, his physicality, even at seventy-six years of age, shockingly resembled my own. Even though I was forty some years his junior, I could see the shape of his fingers, how they remind me of a childhood memory of the way his fingers resembled fat cigars, and now how my own fingers look the same. How his skin, though weak and old, draped on his body over his bones and muscles felt familiar to me. His muscles, that at one time fought for more room insides his work clothes, are the same pine cone-brown color as mine. It will all become a memory, causing me to wonder if the dead ever remember that at one time they were alive.
But he never stopped me from seeing Gat, or anyone else for that matter and years later he often encouraged me to bring my boyfriends to the house. "I will deal with your mother,"
My father knew who and what he was raising and he never mistreated me--or tried to make a man out of me. And because he never beat me or abused me in an attempt to toughen me up in a time during the late '50s and early '60s, when doing so would have been consider the right and proper thing for a father to do when confronted with an effeminate son, I will always cherish his memory. I know at least one man in my life truly loved me, and that man was indeed my father.
"If you don't want these I am going to throw them out," my mother told me when I was back home visiting. They were love letters written to my father before he and my mother were married. She also gave me a 1922 silver dollar from my father's coin collection, his drivers' license, and a pair of shoes, cuff links, handkerchiefs, and key chains. And a photo album. An album of proud men: strong men, and their wives.
When "daddy's little boy" wanted to be "mommy's little girl," I knew I was in trouble. I wanted to knit, sew, bake cookies, quilt, and paint, kiss boys, and play nurse. Now at forty-five years old, I create art by adorning women's handbags with colored pins, puzzle pieces, beads, mementos, and charms. I know I can do these things because I have the support and grace of a loving father in my heart.

Plain and simple this movie spells zombies and mayhem. After a rash of zombie infections, some survivors find themselves held up at the mall. They have some fun while they're stuck at the mall but don't expect a comedy. There's some gruesome violence in this film as well.
6. Mad Max
Gas runs out and this is what Australia becomes, a desolate place filled with road gangs. In this world everyone's competing for one thing; gasoline. Watch citizens fight for survival in this post apocalyptic world.
5. Terminator 2
Rarely do we see a sequel as good as the first. This one is better than its predecessor. Follow Jon Connors attempts to prevent the world takeover of robots using the very same robot that was sent back in time to kill him.
4. Deliverance
Ah the famous Dueling Banjos. This film is a classic. A few friends camping in the great outdoors, what could go wrong? As it happens a lot can go wrong. A few friends become hostages of some local mountain men but thanks to the survivor of the group, Lewis, the group has a chance to get back to society. This movie may have some adult themes.
3. The Postman
Get caught stealing in a post apocalyptic town? Pretend to be a postman! That's what Kevin Costner does in this great EOTW movie. Follow Postmaster Ford Lincoln Mercury and the Postman through the fight of their lives as they preserve the mail service while fighting tyrannical forces.

They thought they cured cancer but instead they created a terrible new disease. After killing off most of the population a sole survivor residing in New York tries to contact others. Isolation is his worst problem because he is immune to the disease. Watch Will Smith try to find other survivors as he struggles to maintain his sanity.

Why does Red Dawn get our vote for number one survivalist movie? Well because of the realistic plot and harsh realities presented. This movie takes place in a small Colorado town. After being invaded by Cuba and Russia a group of students take refuge in the mountains. They begin to mount a guerrilla war campaign against the hostile invaders. A great watch for the modern survivalist.

Greasy Lake, written by T. Coraghessan Boyle, depicts the fear, violence, and salvation three rebellious young adults go though during a nasty fight caused by mistakes. This is written as a response to Vietnam. Mistakes leads to a nasty fight by the United States and Vietnam. Our soldiers go through many emotions and states, including fear, violence, and finally salvation if whey return home. The narrator, Digby, and Jeff go to their usual after-hours party spot only to mistaken a friend for a stranger doing the dirty with a female. As with the United States leaving Vietnam, the three boys run for cover as they drop the big guy and his friends arrive.
After a night of clubbing and intoxication, the narrator, along with Digby and Jeff, roll up on a stranger mistaken as a friend who is in the process of intercourse with his lady. The narrator loses his keys as the group mistakes the stranger for his friend. After the rude interruption, the huge fellow leaps out of the car to handle his business. The narrator realizes that the keys are their only answer, writing, "the lost ignition key was my grail and my salvation" (146). While looking for the keys, things go bad, as the narrator writes, "The first lusty Rockette kick of his steel-towed boot caught me under the chin, chipped my favorite tooth, and left me sprawled in the dirt" (146). This is the initiation process. The three young adults use their fear to fuel regression that leads to violence.
The narrator, Didgy and Jeff are just as, if not more, guilty than the guy they fight. The fear is temporarily relieved as "Didgy vaulted the kissing bumpers and delivered a savage kungfu blow to the greasy character's collarbone" (146). Sadly, this doesn't do much and Didgy gets knocked out. It's not until the narrator takes the tire iron to the man's head do things get serious. The intoxicated trio believe the man is dead .To make things worse, the intoxicated trio tries to rape the man's lady but are chased off as the big guy's friends arrive. Panic leads to all this violence. This is a classical allusion to Vietnam. Our Government sends a bunch of young, scared soldiers into Vietnam to fight people willing to die for their cause. It's clearly a mistake, as our Government admits. This panic that caused both the three young adults to fight and our country to fight is childhood behavior, as David Friedman writes, "The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations"

The narrator, Didgy and Jeff run off into the woods instinctively, with thoughts of cops, police, and jail in their minds. The narrator hides in waist deep water in Greasy Lake and finds a floating dead body. Then, suddenly, he hears the words "Motherfucker!" and is as happy as ever. The narrator writes,
I recognized the verbal virtuosity of the bad greasy character in the engineer boots. Tooth chipped, sneakers gone, coated in mud and slime and worse, crouching breathless in the weeds, waiting to have my ass thoroughly and definitively kicked and fresh from the hideous stinking embrace of a three-days-dead-corpse, I suddenly felt a rush of joy and vindication: the son of a bitch was alive! (149).
The scared, intoxicated trio wait in the woods and hear the smashing of the narrator's car when suddenly, within five seconds, the parking lot is clear and everybody leaves. The narrator emerges from the woods during sunrise to find a great surprise.
Digby and Jeff also return to the car that the narrator is now encircling. As tore up as the car is, Digby says, "At least they didn't slash the tires" (150). The car is drivable! The narrator reaches into his pocket only to remember he forgot his keys. As if a diamond, the narrator's keys were sparkling five feet away from the car. The now tired, sober trio get in the car and as salvation approaches, a Mustang pulls into the parking lot and two girls get out. The girls are looking for "Al," the guy that the narrator almost killed hours ago. The narrator writes, "We looked at her like zombies, like war veterans, like deaf-and-dumb pencil peddlers" (151). However, the zombies deny seeing anybody. What happens next makes the narrator want to cry. One of the girls pulls out a handful of pills and asks the three young adults if they want to party. They politely refuse the offer and drive away. Finally, it is over.
This is the story of three rebellious young adults who become violent from the heat and panic of the moment. These young adults are getting high, drunk, and want to relax at their spot, Greasy Lake. They mistake a stranger for a friend and interrupt his fortification session with a girl. What happens next is the allusion to Vietnam that the author makes. Out of panic, the intoxicated trio and the grumpy fornicator begin a fight. The United States mistakenly fights Vietnam. The fear creates regression for the soldiers involved. The violence they see in Vietnam is appalling. Some receive no salvation. Some do. The keys to the car is the salvation the young men seek. A trip home is the salvation the soldiers seek. Sadly, even though the young men may have learned their lesson, it seems like the United States' involvement in Iraq shows history may repeat itself.
